Menachem Begin

Anecdote...
In September 1940 Begin was playing chess with his wife when
Russian soldiers burst into his home to arrest him. As they
dragged him away, he shouted to Mrs. Begin that he conceded
the game.
Biographical Note...
Russian-born Israeli statesman; prime minister (1977-83). A hardline Zionist, when he became prime minister he nonetheless engaged in peace negotiations with President Anwar Sadat of Egypt and with him was awarded the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize.
