Ziegfeld once offered $750 a week to appear in one of his London shows. She asked what he would offer if her husband and straight man, were included “Five hundred,” was the answer.

Biographical Note: 

Florenz Ziegfeld was a U.S. theatrical producer. He created the famous Ziegfeld Follies (1907–32) and such shows as Sally (1920) and Show Boat (1927), besides launching many stars on their careers.
