Anecdote...
A newspaper to which Kipling subscribed published by mistake an announcement of his death. Kipling wrote at once to the editor: "I've just read that I am dead. Don't forget to delete me from your list of subscribers."
Biographical Note...
British poet and short-story writer, born in India. Much of his work draws on his experiences as a journalist in India in the 1880s, during which time he published a number of short stories. His most successful novel, "Kim" (1901), has an Indian setting, as do his two "Jungle Books" (1894, 1895), written for children. He was awarded the 1907 Nobel Prize for literature.
