Film producer Joseph Levine once presented Mastroianni with a magnificent gold wristwatch. It could have been an embarrassing moment, for the actor was already wearing a gold watch. On seeing what was inside the package, however, Mastroianni took off his own watch and nonchalantly dropped it into the nearest wastebasket.
