Joseph Raymond McCarthy Anecdote...

Senator McCarthy stalked out of a congressional committee room in a rage, to be met by a bevy of reporters who asked him to comment upon a shocking allegation that had just been made. "Why, it's the most unheard-of thing I've ever heard of," McCarthy exploded.


Biographical Note...

U.S. politician, senator from Wisconsin. He was notorious as the instigator of a persecution of people suspected — often totally without cause — of Communist sympathies during the Cold War period. In 1954 the senator was censured by a congressional inquiry and McCarthyism was finally discredited.
