Anecdote...

The Italian tradition of landscape painting and the beauties of the Italian landscape were the factors that caused Wilson's change of allegiance from portraits to landscapes in mid-career. On a visit to the famous waterfall at Terni, he is said to have exclaimed, "Well-done water—by God!"

Welsh painter. He trained as a portraitist, but after a visit to Italy in the 1750s changed his interest to landscapes. He became the first notable British landscape painter.]
