Welcome to Paw Prints TidBits

The Paw Prints Web site is a collection of interesting and humorous trivia about people, animals, places and other "things". This issue of Paw Prints TidBits contains a short anecdote about U.S. poet Robert Frost. I always associate Easter time with Carmel-by-the-Sea because when I was growing up, our family spent many Easters in that quaint seaside town. So the sidebar this month contains some laws and customs that you'll find only in Carmel. If you have any comments or suggestions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Anecdote of the Month

Robert Frost (1874–1963)

Robert Frost
A n e c d o t e . 1 . . .

After a dinner party Robert Frost and the other guests went out onto the veranda to watch the sunset. "Oh, Mr. Frost, isn't it a lovely sunset?" exclaimed a young woman. "I never discuss business after dinner," Frost replied.

A n e c d o t e . 2 . . .

A journalist once called at Frost's house for an interview. "Do you have one of those machines—those tape recorders?" asked the poet suspiciously as he opened the door. "No, sir," replied the journalist. Frost's manner changed instantly. "Well, come on in!" he cried. "Those people who take down every word never get anything right."

Robert Frost was a U.S. poet. Much of his work reflects the New England countryside, where he spent a large part of his life.

Some Carmel-only laws and customs:

STORE SIGNS:
No neon, no lighted bulbs. Design rules generallly allow a sign about 2 by 3 feet, about the size of a small painting. Only indirect lighting with low wattage is allowed.

STOPLIGHTS:
None exist.

HIGH HEELS:
Because tree roots make paths and walkways hazardous, the city requires a permit to wear high heels. The measure, more of a warning about the hazards of strolling, has not been enforced in anyone's recollection.

MAIL:
There is no delivery nor street addresses. Mail pickup is at a central post office.
