Paw Prints TidBits for June Although the first Father's Day celebration was held in Spokane, WA, on June 19, 1910, it wasn't until 1966 that President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. President Richard Nixon signed the law that finally made it permanent in 1972. This month's anecdote focuses on a fatherly moment involving a football hero's father. The sidebar contains links to other pater-centric anecdotes and a joke about a father who reached his limits. We invite you to visit our website, where you will find a slideshow about fathers, paired with some amazing quotes. If you have any comments or suggestions, don't hesitate to contact us. Anecdote of the Month Sid Luckman (1772–1834)
[Source: King's Komputer Treasury of Humor ] B i o g r a p h i c a l . N o t e . . . Luckman was a U.S. Hall of Fame quarterback. He led the Chicago Bears T formation attack that won four National Football League championships in the 1940s. Luckman was a favorite of former Bears owner and coach George "Papa Bear" Halas, who made him the second overall pick in the 1939 draft. A year later, Luckman led Chicago to the most lopsided rout in NFL playoff history, a 73-0 embarrassment of the Washington Redskins in the championship game. Luckman remains the team's all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns, and interceptions. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1965.

Fatherhood Humor Something Nice For DadUnable to attend the funeral after his father died, a son who lived far away called his brother and told him, "Do something nice for Dad and send me the bill." Later, he got a bill for $200.00, which he paid. The next month, he got another bill for $200.00, which he also paid, figuring it was some incidental expense. Bills for $200.00 kept arriving every month, and finally the man called his brother again to find out what was going on. "Well," said the other brother, "you said to do something nice for Dad. So I rented him a tuxedo." Bedtime Ritual Daddy, daddy, can I have another glass of water? But I’ve already given you ten! I know, but the bedroom is still on fire! Reflections on Fatherhood Even though I'm old, I surely do miss my daddy sometimes. — I didn't know the full facts of life until I was 17. My father (Sigmund Freud) never talked about his work. — |
