Paw Prints TidBits for October

October means a change in the weather...and Halloween, the scariest holiday of the year. This month's anecdote is about Louis Mountbatten (1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma) and one of his childhood fears. The sidebar includes a cat joke and some interesting factoids about cats. We invite you to view a slideshow of black cats and quotes about these lovely creatures. You may also want to visit the homepage for links to several anecdotes about people who spent their lives creating suspense.

Anecdote of the Month

Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979)

Louis MountbattenThe five-year-old Mountbatten was reluctant to go to bed alone in the dark. "It isn't the dark," he told his father confidentially. "There are wolves up there." His father smiled. "There are no wolves in this house," he said reassuringly. This was of little consolation to the rational young Mountbatten. "I daresay there aren't," he replied, "but I think there are."

Cat Humor

So this guy walks into a bar...

A three-legged cat walks into a saloon in the Old West. He sidles up to the bar and announces: "I'm looking for the man who shot my paw."

Cat Factoids

• When a kitten bats at a ball of yarn, it almost invariably does so with the left paw.

• Cats' eyes are the biggest of all mammals' eyes...in proportion to body weight.
