The name of that green color we call “teal” comes from green patches on the head and wings of that littlest duck called the teal.
And along that same line...there is such a thing as a “red” teal duck. The little bird’s official name is “Cinnamon Teal-Red Duck.” [See slideshow to the right.]
In an underwater dive, a duck’s heartbeat slows to half speed.
The typical speed of a migrating duck is 50 mph.
The domestic duck called the Muscovy wags its tail from side to side like a dog.
A group of ducks on the ground is called a “paddling.” In the air, it’s called a “team.”
Ducks will lay eggs only in the early morning.
