- The name of that green color we call "teal" comes from green patches on the head and wings of that littlest duck called the teal.
- And along that same line...there is such a thing as a "red" teal duck. The little bird's official name is "Cinnamon Teal-Red Duck." (See photo below.)
- In an underwater dive, a duck's heartbeat slows to half speed.
- The typical speed of a migrating duck is 50 mph.
- The domestic duck called the Muscovy wags its tail from side to side like a dog.
- A group of ducks on the ground is called a "paddling." In the air, it's called a "team."
- Ducks will lay eggs only in the early morning.
