Elephants

The elephant is the only mammal with four knees. Elephants love licorice. An elephant's ear weighs about 100 pounds. That's an African elephant. Its ears cover its shoulders. An Asiatic elephant's ears don't. The longest recorded elephant tusk was eleven and a half feet. An elephant doesn't get all its teeth until it's about 40 or 50 years old. And, by the way, an elephant's molar can weigh eight pounds. According to the Moslems of India, it's good luck to be in the vicinity of an elephant when it sneezes. Most elephants lie down to sleep. Normal walking speed for an elephant is 7-1/2 mph. Elephants can't run. Their leg pairs, front and hind, are too close together. In any gait, except a fast walk, the hind fee would clobber the front feet. A mother elephant nurses her young for five years. An elephant emits low-frequency sounds—not from its trunk or mouth—but from its forehead. You can say the same for a whale.
