  • In zoos, it's the big cats that draw the most people.
  • To have the "lion's share" means to have it all ... a lion doesn't leave anything behind, not on purpose.
  • The first coins ever minted featured face-to-face heads of a bull and a lion. They were minted in about 640 B.C. in Lydia (part of what's now Turkey.).
  • Lions near Lake Manyara in Tanzania climb trees ... to get above the flies. They're the only lions that do that.
  • No animal can make a louder noise than the lion.
  • Deer panic at the sniff of lion manure. Genetic memory, evidently. If you can find some for your garden, the deer won't come near it.
  • Male lions don't hunt for food ... or at least not for most of it. Female lions do nine-tenths of the hunting.
