Rabbits & Hares
- When lying at rest, a rabbit is "set," a
hare is "formed," a buck deer is "lodged."
- Angora goats produce mohair. Angora rabbits produce
angora.
- The Aztecs measured drunkenness in "rabbits." Convivial
at 15 rabbits. At 400 rabbits, unconscious.
- Know why magicians prefer to use rabbits in their
acts over any other animal? Because rabbits tend
to stay quiet.
- A mother rabbit tells whether a baby is hers
by sniffing it. So a rabbit raiser who wants a
doe to adopt orphaned babbies puts a drop of vanilla
on her nose.
- You can feed 100 rabbits with what you have to
feed one cow.
- Not all rabbits hop when scared. Some arctic
rabbits in panic run upright on their hind legs.
- Rabbits build nests. Hares don't.
- The mother rabbit only nurses her offspring once
every 24 hours.
- The English upper classes like to hunt foxes
because foxes run in straight lines. That lets
the hunters get good rides. Centuries ago, they
hunted stags but ran out of same. Then they tried
rabbits, but rabbits run in circles.
