 Surprisingly enough, St. Patrick was not Irish. He was born in Wales, but when he was about sixteen he was captured by Irish raiders and taken as a slave to Ireland.

 The main language spoken on the island of Ireland is English although in parts of the country — particularly the western coast — Irish is still in use.

 Irish is a Celtic language with Indo-European roots sometimes referred to as Gaelic. To be accurate, it should be called Irish Gaelic since Gaelic is also used to refer to the Scottish language.
