Kangaroos
- A male kangaroo is called a boomer. A female
kangaroo is called a flyer.
- Not all kangaroos hop. The Burrowing Boodie lives
mostly in "unhoppable" territory—underground.
- To wean her offspring, the mother kangaroo bends
far forward as she nibbles grass so the baby
in the pouch can nibble a bit, too.
- All kangaroos cough when scared.
- The adult female kangaroo can weigh as much as
60,000 times as much as her newborn baby. If the
same ratio existed between human mother and child,
the mother would weigh about 420,000 pounds!
- The female kangaroo is faster than the male kangaroo.
- A smart kangaroo is about 40 percent smarter
than a smart dog.
- In Australia, kangaroos outnumber people by more
than two to one.
