Penguins
- Can you name a place on Earth that has both orange
groves and penguins? The Galapagos Islands!
- Like homing pigeons, transplanted penguins will
find their way back to their bases, if possible.
By swimming. And waddling.
- Chickens recognize chickens by their looks. Penguins
recognize penguins by their squawks.
- When penguins could fly—that was way back—they
were as big as grown people.
- What makes a penguin clumsy is that so much of
its legs are inside its body.
- Not only can a mother penguin identify her own
chick by its call, but similarly she can recognize
the egg it's in before it's hatched by its call
therein.
- You want to keep a pet penguin? All right, but
you'll have to refrigerate it.
- A penguin can swim a lot faster than a salmon.
- A penguin takes a six-inch stride. But it can
run as fast as a man.
- A drink of fresh water makes a penguin shudder.
Several drinks of it makes that penguin sick.
- Penguins dive as far as 800 feet down into the
sea.
- Penguins will walk right up to anything. They
look fearless. They're not. They're near-sighted.
