  • Marine scientists can now take a whale's pulse..it's seven to nine beats a minute.
  • The killer whale is a dolphin, technically. The pulse of a killer whale depends on where the whale is... at the water's surface, it's 60 beats a minute. Underwater, 30 beats a minute.
  • The heart of one blue whale, caught in 1947, was actually put on the scales. It weighed 1,540 pounds.
